Hog Share FAQ

WHY A HOG SHARE From Diede Family Farm?

When you buy a hog share, you’re not just buying “pork.” You’re buying:

Heritage genetics (Berkshire & Berkshire -Cross): Known for exceptional marbling, tenderness, and rich flavor—chosen specifically for eating quality, not speed or scale.

USDA Certified Processing Facility: Professionally processed in a federally inspected facility to ensure food safety, consistency, and peace of mind.

No enhancing drugs: No growth promotants, no shortcuts—just good genetics, quality feed, and time.

Colorado Proud certified: Verified Colorado origin through the Colorado Department of Agriculture, not just a marketing claim.

Ethical, small-batch care: Clean pens, calm handling, slow growth, and no crowding—ever. Animal welfare isn’t optional here.

Family-run Colorado farm: Raised by our family, on our farm, here in Colorado. No middlemen. No mystery supply chain.

Custom cuts: You work directly with the processor (and we help guide you) so your freezer is filled with the types of pork your family actually eats.

Freezer security: One decision, and your freezer is stocked for months—no weekly grocery stress, no price guessing.

We believe in transparency, zero-pressure conversations, and making this whole process feel simple, human, and grounded in trust.

What Comes in a whole Hog Share?

Every hog is a little different, but a whole hog gives you the full range of cuts — the most variety and the best overall value. A typical whole hog includes:

  • Pork chops

  • Shoulder roasts & loin roasts

  • Bacon

  • Ground pork

  • Sausage

  • Ham or pork steaks

  • Ribs

  • Extra roasts, both tenderloins, both hams, full sides of ribs, and all cuts available only from a whole hog

You have complete control over your cut sheet — chop thickness, roast sizes, sausage flavors, package sizes, and more. We walk you through everything so you get exactly what your family cooks and loves.

Approximate finished meat:
A whole hog usually yields around 140–180 lbs of take-home meat**, depending on cut choices and your preferred processing options.**

This is the best option if you want to:

  • fill your freezer for the year

  • share with another family

  • get the most customization and value

What Comes in a half Hog Share?

Every hog is a little different, but a half hog typically includes a mix of:

  • Pork chops

  • Roasts (shoulder, loin, etc.)

  • Bacon

  • Ground pork

  • Sausage

  • Ham or pork steaks

  • Ribs

We help you customize your cut sheet so you get more of what your family actually cooks.

Approximate finished meat:
A half hog usually yields around 70–90 lbs of take-home meat, depending on how you choose your cuts.

Transparent Pricing

We keep our pricing simple and honest.

  • Hanging weight price: $4.50/lb

  • Deposit: $100 (applied toward your total)

  • Processing: Paid directly to the butcher (varies slightly by facility & cut choices)

What “hanging weight” means:

After the hog is harvested, the carcass is weighed before cutting into individual packages. That number is your hanging weight and is what we use to calculate your total.

FREEZER SPACE

You don’t need a walk-in freezer.

  • Half hog: about 4–6 cubic feet

  • Whole hog: about 8–12 cubic feet

If you can fit 6–8 full grocery bags in your freezer, you can fit a half hog.

If you can fit around 12–16 grocery bags, you’re in whole hog territory.

Love from Customers!

  • Today I drove an hour and a half to pick up some Silkie chicks. Once I arrived I was welcomed with big warm smiles and the most kind hearted people. they let my daughter pick out the first one to be sure she was included. Even showed us the chicks that had hatched hours before we arrived! Andrea gave me knowledge and comfort to reaching out if I had any questions on the chicks, with no rush to leave. Their family farm is truly amazing and I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend them to anyone and everyone. It's worth the drive we made. Truly an amazing experience. Thank you again Diede Family 🤍

  • We recently found this local gem, Diede Family Farm, and it’s been a game-changer for our household, delivering the freshest, most nutritious eggs, bacon, and pork straight to our table. Receiving our first delivery was a delight—my daughter’s face lit up with joy when she saw all the different colors of eggs, from soft blues to warm browns, like a little rainbow in the carton, and it came with a sweet handwritten note that made it even more special. The quality is unbeatable—those golden-yolked eggs taste like sunshine, and the bacon and pork are bursting with flavor, raised with care you can truly taste. It’s clear this family pours their heart into what they do, and it’s a joy to support a local family that’s all about wholesome, honest food. If you’re looking to elevate your meals with ingredients that are as delicious as they are responsibly sourced, Diede Family Farm is the place to go.
